What an adventure this work has been for me, I launched Unity Civil Celebrancy on the 8th July 2013 and have just celebrated my 1st anniversary in business and what a great sense of achievement! I sometimes wonder why I didn’t do it sooner but I suppose there is a right time for everything. For many years I have worked with people from all different walks of life and really enjoy getting to know what makes them tick and all about the differences that make us who we are.

To me, it is that difference that makes us all so interesting and that is really what brought me to this great vocation. Working with people and helping them to create a personalised ceremony is the best job ever. The main drawback is that not many people have heard about Celebrants and what we do so i’ll give you a quick overview and go into it in more depth over time while i’m blogging about the different ceremonies that I write and officiate.

Creating something beautiful with words

A family celebrant such as myself is someone who writes and officiates at all kinds of ceremonies that mark significant life events for people who might want something a bit different or creative, ‘tradition with a twist’ or completely original and unique. That’s not to say that your ceremony has to be really way out or wacky to be different, it’s different because it’s about you and none of us is the same. As a secular celebrant I believe that all people should have the ceremony of their choice.

When you choose a secular celebrant you are choosing  someone who will visit you in your own home or a venue of  your choice. Spending time with you and getting to know you  and your unique story gives me the opportunity to work  closely with you and that’s the main thing that makes your  ceremony so personal and unique. You’ll be able to take your time during the ceremony as there will be no time crunch. You won’t have to have a licensed venue if you don’t want one and most importantly the ceremony will be bespoke to you not written for anyone and everyone.

Keep your eye out for my blogs as I’ll be sharing them on Google+ Facebook and Twitter so if you haven’t already ‘liked’ or followed me you can do so by following the links on my contact page. You will be getting some insight into all kinds of things, creative weddings and what real couples are doing to make their ceremonies really personal and bespoke to them.

I am sometimes invited to write guest blogs on colleagues websites, If you want to find out about what a Celebrant does, follow the link to my blog on Steve Grogan Photography.

Meanwhile if you have any questions or need help or information feel free to email me and I will be more than happy to blog about it in the near future. And of course I am always happy to meet with you to you to discuss your needs and talk through how you could soon be working with me to create the ceremony of your dreams.

Footnote:

You only get one chance to have your ceremony and as ours is not yet a regulated profession anyone can call themselves a Celebrant. Any professionally trained Celebrant will be more than happy for you to check that they are qualified.  I trained with The Fellowship of Professional Celebrants, see my About Liz page for more information.
